Trimming the Excess: Creating Space for What Truly Matters in Your Wellness Journey

“You don’t know what you’re missing until it’s gone" often feels like a cliché line lifted from the pages of a romance novel. Yet, it accurately encapsulates the profound realization I've experienced regarding my health. The most surprising aspect is the complete absence of warning signs. Never did I anticipate that the Covid-19 vaccine would swiftly disrupt my life, drastically altering my quality of life in an instant.

This message is a wake-up call, directed not only at those enjoying good health but also at those battling the challenges of Long-Covid or chronic health conditions. Life's unpredictability underscores the importance of prioritizing wellness now, to avoid dedicating time to illness later on. For those experiencing chronic health issues, embracing a lifestyle that complements your new normal is essential. Cherish the path you're on, regardless of the obstacles that may arise. If it’s not contributing to your journey, drop it. If it’s not improving your life, drop it.

Embracing change

Quit dwelling on the past and gear up for what's coming your way. Change is inevitable, but the real choice lies in how we respond to it. Opt for growth over stagnation, and let's kick off this journey today.

I get it, we're all after those instant results. But let's face it, progress takes time. It might be weeks, months, or even longer before we start seeing the fruits of our labour. Sure, the road ahead may seem long, but trust me, it's worth every step.

Don't find yourself months down the line wishing you'd started sooner. Begin now, and witness how each day brings you closer to your goals. Along the way, you'll encounter unforeseen challenges, but with each small step forward, you'll also experience profound results. Stay committed to your journey, and embrace the growth that comes with it.

Letting go of negativity

Have you ever noticed negativity or doubt leading to positive changes in your life?

Let's dive into understanding the source. Negative self-talk often stems from our Ego, a psychological construct shaping our self-image and beliefs. Through my spiritual journey, I've learned to recognize these thoughts, pinpoint their origins, and release them. Try a quick body scan next time you're plagued by negativity – where do you feel it most in your body? What sensations arise when you focus on these thoughts? Challenge those thoughts and begin forming new belief systems to reframe your perspective. This shift will impact your feelings, emotions, and motivation levels, empowering you to take action.

For me, there was a period when I questioned whether I deserved genuine love, all because of my health struggles. It felt incredibly isolating, thinking that my health issues made me unworthy of acceptance. But by shifting my mindset, I opened myself up to finding the incredible partner I have today – someone who not only supports me but has also taken the time to understand and educate himself about my health challenges.

Become your own support system

Taking control of my health journey has been incredibly empowering. After all, if I can't support myself, how can I expect others to? It's essential to be attuned to your needs and listen to your body. Make your health a priority each day, and don't hesitate to set clear expectations and boundaries with others.

During times of significant trauma, it's common for others to struggle to relate or empathize with what you're experiencing. This lack of understanding can sometimes lead to frustration and conflict. It's important not to jeopardize your support system when you're feeling stuck or frustrated with your current condition—remember, they're likely doing their best to support you.

Instead, become clear on what you can manage independently and where you may require support. Sometimes, it's best to communicate directly, saying, "I'm not looking for advice; I'd just like you to listen." This simple yet powerful boundary can help maintain healthy relationships during challenging times.

Adapt a fresh way of living

View the challenges as a chance to earn a PhD in your own health and wellness regimen. I understand that there may be days that it will be difficult to just get off the couch- but it doesn’t require an instrumental shift in lifestyle overnight. Begin by cultivating confidence in making changes in one aspect of your life—I advise against attempting to transform everything simultaneously. It could be as straightforward as removing alcohol from your diet or dedicating yourself to one outdoor activity daily. Your new lifestyle doesn't need to be fully defined from the outset; it can evolve as you go, tailored to what works best for you and your body.

Let's leave the past behind and embrace what's ahead. Choose growth over stagnation and start your journey today. Progress takes time, so don't delay—every step forward counts. Challenge negative thoughts, communicate your needs, and view challenges as opportunities for growth. Start small, adapt as you go, and remember, that every change you make contributes to your well-being and success.
